Grow-your-pack game!

You are a canine and you want to thrive. Do this by growing and cultivating your own pack for group-related benefits or be a lone wolf and fend for yourself! Stats Each canine has five stats:
  • Lone Wolf points
  • Alpha Wolf points
  • Hunger
  • Health
  • Contentment score The Lone Wolf scale determines how much you enjoy being alone! The higher your LW score, the more your contentment will be boosted as long as you are alone in a pack. However, the larger the pack and the longer you are in a pack, the worse off your contentment will be. The Alpha Wolf scale determines how good you are at recruiting an individual into your pack. If your AW score is higher than their contentment score, you have successfully convinced the player of joining forces! The hunger scale starts at 10. Each time you eat, you will gain +3 points by default. If you run out of hunger points, you will lose 4 health per phase that you are hungry in. You lose one hunger point per phase by default. Your health bar starts at 10. By resting, you will gain +2 health points. Health can be lost if you are hungry (-4 health per phase hungry). If you reach 0 health, you will be forced to rest two phases. The contentment score takes all of these stats into account and are calculated by two formulas:
For lone wolves (i.e. players in a pack with only 1 member): (HUNGER * 2) + (HEALTH * 2) + (# of consecutive phases alone * 0.25 * LW) For pack canines (i.e. players in a pack with more than 1 member): (HUNGER * 2) + (HEALTH * 2) - ((# of wolves in pack + # of phases in pack) * 0.25 * (LW - 50)) Additionally, each canine will get a buff dependent on their specific flavor. This can be a one-time or per-phase buff. Each player starts with 100 points distributed between the LW and AW scale. These depend on the specific canine and their flavor.

Actions Each canine may action once per phase. They can choose following options:
  • Recruit
  • Eat
  • Rest
  • Abandon pack
  • Knowledge transfer
Additionally, there are some actions that are only available to pack members of certain pack sizes:
  • Forage
  • Attack A canine can attempt to recruit another canine. If the recruiter’s AW score is larger than the other canine’s contentment score, they will be recruited. Otherwise, it will fail. A canine can eat for +3 hunger points. A canine can rest for +2 health. Players who idle will default to resting. A canine can choose to abandon the pack and live in their lone wolf era. Abandoning the pack will allow the canine to re-establish their own pack; however, they will be unable to action for the next phase. A canine may transfer knowledge between their LW and AW score. Transferring knowledge will swap 10 points from one scale to the other. Members in a pack will get a bonus given by the average score of all pack members for the target skill, divided by 10. Canines in a pack may forage for the pack. It requires at least 2 canines to forage. They will bring home double the amount of food. The foraging parties will be able to feed additional pack members that are double the amount of foragers. If there are not that many members in pack, additional food will be stored and eaten the next day by one or more of the foragers. This will allow them to eat without using an action to eat. The pack leader and the 2 pack elders may attack another pack. They must all submit the attack action on a member. Whoever is the pack leader and pack elders of said member will be faced in a duel: If the attackers have the higher average contentment score, they win the entire pack that they are attacking. If they lose, the recruitment fails and nothing happens. If they attack a pack with only one or two members, only the one or two longest-serving pack canines will face in the duel.
(edited)
16:39
Hierarchy The pack has a hierarchy. By default, the pack leader is the canine that has been in the pack the longest. The pack elders are those ranked 2nd and 3rd in terms of phases spent in a pack. There can be multiple pack leaders and elders if there are ties. In that case, the points they gain per phase will be divided between them (see Points). Additionally, during an attack they will be randomized, so that a 3v3 duel can take place. A lone canine will be considered as the pack leader of their pack. Phases & action order Each phase will by default cost you -1 hunger. Additionally, any action that is not β€œrest” will cost you an additional -1 hunger. Action order happens in the following order:
  • Resting
  • Eating
  • Foraging
  • Knowledge transfer
  • Abandoning pack
  • Recruiting
  • Attacking After the actions have been calculated, your stats will be altered (e.g. loss of hunger or health points, change in AW/LW point distribution, calculation of contentment score) accordingly.
Points Canines will gain points. Each phase the contentment score will be measured. The average contentment score will serve as a basis for the final score. Additionally, the pack leader will get +2.5 points per phase. Pack elders will get +1 points per phase. A successful recruitment will give you +5 points. A failed recruitment will give you a deduction of -1 points. During an attack (see Actions), if an entire pack is recruited, points will be added up for the total amount of canines recruited and then divided amongst the 3 attackers. If the recruitment fails, the negative points are added up and distributed similarly. The 3 canines with the highest scores at the end of the game will be given an event winner role.

Formalities Event actions should be submitted by pinging @Event Host in your pack channel. You may request a separate event SC if you do not want to submit actions in a shared pack channel. To do this, just ping me in your regular SC or your pack channel. This game is opt-out. By default everyone is in. Ping @Event Host if you don’t want to participate. Note that no real effort is required and even idling won’t disqualify you from this even, but the choice is ultimately up to you. This game is severely untested. If it flops completely, no event role will be given. Minor modifications and tweakings may take place during the game if needed and may affect whether tokens and roles will be given out or not. However, as it stands, the top three will be given an event winner role and subsequent token gifts. (edited)
16:40
@Event Participant I will be adding you to your event channels (this may take a couple of minutes). From then on, you may submit actions. (edited)

TL;DR: Recruit canines to your pack or don't! Packs can offer some benefits in terms of actions, though this is dependent on your personal LW score (high LW scores dislike larger packs). You submit one action per phase.
16:56
Clarification: Each phase, if you want to action, just ping @Event Host with it. If you recruit, make sure to choose a player with the Event Participant role! Some players may not be playing the event, and some non-players (e.g. mentors) may be playing. (edited)

Clarification #2: If a player recruits someone who is recruiting someone else, whoever has the higher AW score will take precedence in recruiting in the action order. The second player's recruitment will fail if they have been recruited into another pack. Clarification #3: However, in the edge case where the canine A with the higher AW score recruits somebody (canine C) into their pack, and then the canine B with the lower AW score recruits said first recruiter (canine A), this may still go through (dependent on the contentment score): Effectively canine A ends up in pack B, canine C ends up in pack A. The same goes for multiple people recruiting the same person, fwiw. The higher AW will always dominate in such cases. If the AW score is equal, then it'll be randomized [edge case].

Event CCs are allowed. Make a CC, ping @Event Host and they will be refunded from your CC count. Note that you have to be one under the CC limit for this to work. If you want to create a CC while you are at the CC limit (such as now), ping @Event Host to create one manually. An Event CC may not be used to talk about the on-going Werewolf game at all.

Pack mechanics: In general, the packs are named after the pack leaders. If a pack leader is recruited out and an elder becomes a pack leader [see Hierarchy], the pack will be renamed as such. If you abandon your pack, you will recreate your own "solo pack". Note Formalities if you want a personal event channel next to your pack channel.

Sorry, processing this game takes a while (I have a spreadsheet with 6 tabs). You can now submit your actions for N1, @Event Participant. All your scores should have been updated if you check the pinned message in your pack channel. I will in general commit to an accuracy of 2 hours, but tomorrow morning may be even more delayed. You are allowed to submit actions late if the delayed phase change of the event causes you to miss the entire phase. You can not submit actions late if I see you've been active during the phase and just forgot.

Okay, all info should be processed. Feel free to submit actions for this phase (D1). I request, please do not submit actions in your game-related SC. If you would like to submit actions that you want to keep hidden from your pack, you can request a game-related event channel that I will create. Dead players will be able to see any action you submit in your game-related SC, even though they also play the event. Also, note that you can only transfer knowledge as long as you have at least 10 LW/AW. You can't go into negative LW/AW score. A player with e.g. 0 AW cannot do the knowledge transfer (because where would the 10 points come from?) Note that I have updated the player list with Sin opting out. @Event Participant

Note that I have added a Clarification #3 to consider edge-cases around recruiting. They are consistent with how recruiting functions (highest AW recruiter is considered first), but it's also good to have it explicitly stated.

Food that is foraged but not eaten immediately (i.e. left-over) will stack in the pack where they were foraged. That is to say, if people are recruited out of or leave the pack with the foraged food stash, they will not be able to take it "with them".

All actions have been processed @Event Participant. Feel free to submit for the next phase. Note on foraging: Stacked food will be consumed first by foragers (with the longest time spent in that pack), then, if there's excess, by whatever non-foragers have spent the longest time in pack. Stacked food stays in a pack, it cannot be recruited out of a pack. Note that the player list has been updated with Meerkat leaving.

Minor balance change: For the attack action, if an attack occurs from an attacking group (3) onto a smaller pack (1 or 2), only a 1v1 or a 2v2 would occur, even though all 3 attackers submitted the action. To balance this out, if the attackers attack a pack with 2 players (2v2), the third attacker will give a +10 contentment bonus on the attacker's stats. Similarly, if they attack a pack with 1 player (1v1), the second and third wolf will give a +20 (total) contentment bonus. This is a necessary change. Note that it will still always require the 3 pack leaders + elders to attack, regardless of the pack size that is being attacked. Even though there are a lot of words, this will only affect the game balance minimally.

I'm changing this so that people with less than 10 LW/AW can still transfer, however they will only transfer however much they have. So a person with 5 LW would transfer 5 AW (this is ignoring any potential bonuses). Let this be decreed! Players with 0 of a score can still obviously not do a knowledge transfer.

All actions have been processed and you can submit. Phase change tomorrow will be late again, hopefully I can get to it at around 11am UTC like today. @Event Participant A note on final scoring: I promised that the top 3 would win. In order to keep things somewhat competitive and fair, I will be rewarding the event winner role like this: Top 3 overall and the best AW or LW should an AW or LW not player happen to be in the top 3. An AW player is someone with either over 50> AW score or who has spent a majority of the game in a pack with other canines. An LW player is someone with either over 50> LW score who has spent a majority game alone. (edited)

Event Results

@Event Participant there were 17 players. However, only 3 or 4 players will walk away an event winner. The final score comprises of two aspects: average contentment score and accumulated points. Let's look at average contentment scores first: πŸ₯‡ @Maned Wolf (212.55) πŸ₯ˆ @Island Fox (193.09) πŸ₯‰ @Gray Fox (189.95) 4. @Hoary Fox (186.14) 5. @Cape Fox (183.05) 6. @Dhole (134.82) 7. @African Wild Dog (128.00) 8. @Fennec Fox (127.32) 9. @Bush Dog (119.36) 10. @Coyote (118.18) 11. @Domestic Dog (113.25) 12. @Algonquin Wolf (111.64) 13. @Gray Wolf (106.73) 14. @Sechuran Fox (96.73) 15. @Side-striped jackal (72.27) 16. @Crab-eating Fox (65.91) 17. @Pampas Fox (23.76) Now, let's look at accumulated points: πŸ₯‡ @Dhole (60.84) πŸ₯ˆ @Gray Wolf (38.82) πŸ₯‰ @Bush Dog (37.32) 4. @Hoary Fox (27.50) 4. @Cape Fox (27.50) 4. @Maned Wolf (27.50) 4. @Island Fox (27.50) 4. @Fennec Fox (27.50) 4. @Gray Fox (27.50) 10. @Algonquin Wolf (24.00) 11. @African Wild Dog (22.00) 12. @Side-striped jackal (16.50) 13. @Pampas Fox (15.00) 14. @Sechuran Fox (10.50) 15. @Crab-eating Fox (10.00) 16. @Domestic Dog (4.50) 17. @Coyote (1.00)

Final Results

Now for the final score tally. Mind you, top LW, top AW, and overall top 3 win this event. πŸ₯‡ @Maned Wolf (240.05) πŸ† πŸ₯ˆ @Island Fox (220.59) πŸ† πŸ₯‰ @Gray Fox (217.45) πŸ† 4. @Hoary Fox (213.64) 5. @Cape Fox (210.55) 6. @Dhole (195.66) πŸ† 7. @Bush Dog (156.69) 8. @Fennec Fox (154.82) 9. @African Wild Dog (150.00) 10. @Gray Wolf (145.55) 11. @Algonquin Wolf (135.64) 12. @Coyote (119.18) 13. @Domestic Dog (117.75) 14. @Sechuran Fox (107.23) 15. @Side-striped jackal (88.77) 16. @Crab-eating Fox (75.91) 17. @Pampas Fox (38.76) Please bear in mind that I'm aware that this game was not balanced. We can discuss it's faults and flaws, since most certainly the personalized stats and wonky game mechanics gave advantages and disadvantages from the get-go. I still believe that all 4 winners played near optimally, even if they were helped by stats, and won deservedly so. Of course, many others put effort in and played near-optimally or even better and should also be acknowledged. Please join me in congratulating our winners: @Maned Wolf, @Dhole, @Gray Fox, @Island Fox @Event Participant πŸ‘
