Each day, the Flowerhorn Cichlid may select an aquatic life to protect for the next two phases. The chosen aquatic life will be announced to the aggressive fish group. Once per game, the Flowerhorn Cichlid may alternatively join the aggressive fish group as a regular jaguar cichlid.

The chosen aquatic life will be protected from attacks and euthanizations during the following night and day phase, though not the current day phase. The Flowerhorn Cichlid may not protect the same aquatic life consecutively, and may not protect themself. If the Flowerhorn Cichlid survives the day, the aggressive fish group is informed at the start of the night that the Flowerhorn Cichlid has chosen to protect an aquatic life, as well as who that aquatic life is. If the Flowerhorn Cichlid protects a member of the aggressive fish group, and the protection prevents the target from dying, the Flowerhorn Cichlid is informed that their target is a member of the aggressive fish group. The Flowerhorn Cichlid is neither a aggressive fish nor a member of the aggressive fish group. If the Flowerhorn Cichlid chooses to join the aggressive fish group, they may not select an aquatic life to protect, and will lose their power; their species will change to jaguar cichlid.

Joining the aggressive fish group is an immediate abilities, but protecting their target is an end-day ability.
