Limited Role

The Farmer will pass on their role to another player, whom they have chosen as a target, when they die. If their target is part of the townsfolk or a wolf, their role is erased and replaced by a Farmer role of the same alignment. Otherwise, a scarecrow role is granted on top of their current role.

If I have studied the job description properly, the text mentions 'The Farmer can select a player', to which I believe the implication is that they aren't forced to do this action, similar to a herald or journalist and not like the dog or psychopath, whom each have forced actions on night 1
