Each night the Thieving player must select a player to steal the modifier of, that player may not have their modifier stolen again. Failing to choose a valid player will result in the action being randomised. When there are no more valid players to steal a modifier from the Thieving player loses this modifier and gains an arbitrary new one.

At the start of the game a Smart player is told some of the roles on the role list.

The Smart modifier can only be used in games with a partial or private role list.
