The core visual aspect is those black and white noir movies that take place in New York (tall skyscrapers, etc), but there are magical aspects dotted around which are actually normal

Some things like Talking House Mat is a house with a yard which is quite unusual for New York, since it's mostly made of tall buildings rather than family houses
Canonically Stein wants to get stepped on but not sure if he wants to roll with that (I didn't ask), it'd certainly be useful since he is a magic carpet that can fly around
The city is ambigously timed to America's depression age Post-war, although that is up for debate because of the influences. A lot of weird elements were either always there or come from the far away neighboring city, Broccolyn.
Apparently that's where the multiple versions of RoboTS__ come from. Despite the naming, nobody actually knows if @RoboTS__ Prototype is in fact less advanced than @RoboTS__(edited)
